Overview of Excursion:
Dive into the long history of tea growing and production in Mauritius. A fascinating journey through the uplands starting at Domaine des Aubineaux, a colonial house now converted into a museum. You will continue on across the green-carpeted landscape of Bois Cheri to a tea factory where lunch will be served. This epic, flavoursome adventure will come to a close with a visit of a two-centuries-old period house in Saint Aubin.
This highly interesting and informative tour will provide an immersion into the art and culture of tea, which was introduced in Mauritius in 1760. You will be guided from the house of a former major tea producer in the Central Plateau to a sugar estate mansion in the south, and through a more than 125-year-old tea factory, museum and plantations. You will also have the opportunity to taste some of the twenty-odd varieties of tea and assorted products still available in Mauritius.
