“A charming village with a distinctive character and amazing places to visit.”
Overview of Excursion:
The small bucolic village of Chamarel is situated at around 300 metres above sea level and offers a sweeping bird’s eye view of the entire South-West of the island. Steeped in authenticity and simplicity, it is known for its winding road, amazing geological features, lush vegetation, cultural attractions and more.
Often referred to as the cradle of Creole culture, Chamarel is among the island’s most visited spots. This mountainous area holds a comprehensive collection of tourist attractions, including the Chamarel 7 Coloured Earth Geopark with 600 million years of history, a massive waterfall pouring water from nearly 100 metres high and the Ebony Forest Reserve, a 50-hectare conservation site for an immersive experience of native Mauritian woodland and wildlife. After lunch, a visit to the Rhumerie de Chamarel will show you all the steps in making rum from sugarcane juice.
