Overview of Excursion:

Delving deep into the island’s past, this thrilling experience showcases iconic landmarks alongside the busy energy of the capital. Your trip back in time starts in the verdant paradise of Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens before discovering a military landmark situated on top of a hill with panoramic views stretching out to the harbour. You will also learn about the history of indentured labourers who arrived from India in the 19th century and the plight of slaves in the colonial era. After igniting your senses with the kaleidoscope of colours, sounds and aromas of a bustling bazaar, you will enjoy some free time to explore the city at your own pace.

The Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens, established in 1770, boast a breathtaking collection of plants from around the world. The exploration of Port Louis begins with a drive to Fort Adelaide (La Citadelle), a historic fortification completed in the 1840s. The evocative Aapravasi Ghat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the indentured labour diaspora began. Through interactive exhibits and poignant stories, you will gain a deeper understanding of slavery in Mauritius at Intercontinental Slavery Museum. The Central Market is a window into a whirlwind of local traditions. Make use of your leisure time to wander along charming streets, discover local shops or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere of the capital.
